The Annual Presentation Evening usually takes place on the second Friday of November.
Award Winners
PRESTON HARRIERS TROPHIES and ANNUAL AWARDS Presented annually at Club Presentation Evening T&F – Club Championship Awards All are awarded based on event points at the T&F club championships
T&F - Ernie Topping Awards – U11 These are badges purchased with a donation from the widow of Ernie Topping, a long serving member who wished to be remembered within the club, and had been associated with the youngsters. The award is for athletes who have shown commitment, have overcome difficulties, or have otherwise earned special recognition.
T&F - Richard Aspinwall Memorial Cup Awarded for the best performance, male, at the T&F club championships
T&F - Ewart Bradshaw Bowl Awarded for the best performance, female, at the T&F club championships
T&F – Most Improved all rounders 11-14 – retained trophies The five star pentathlon scores are worked out for everyone in the age group each year. The boy and girl with the biggest percentage improvement win the trophy. This shows they have done five events each of two consecutive years, and improved. Trophies purchased annually.
T&F - Major Oddie Trophy This was given to the club by a former competitor. It had originally been a trophy for the best sprinter in the club. The trophy had been won outright after the donor won it in three consecutive years. He wanted it to be used to recognise a young performer, and it was awarded for the most improved athlete (male or female) until 2005 when the club was given additional trophies, and is now awarded for the most improved male athlete of the year.
T&F – Paul Moore Trophy Awarded to an athlete who has overcome adversity and shown commitment
T&F - Jean & Dave Tate Trophy Dave Tate has been associated with the club for many years, and wanted his wife Jean, who died of cancer in 2006, to be remembered in the club. Enabled us to recognise most improved male and female athletes, being paired with the Major Oddie Trophy
T&F - Marcus Worthington Trophy Purchased with a donation from the company in 2006 and to recognise most promising male and female athletes, being paired with the W G Swinbank Trophy
T&F - WG Swinbank Trophy Until 2006 awarded for the most promising athlete (male or female) now awarded to the most promising female, the male receiving the Marcus Worthington Trophy donated in that year.
T&F Athletes of the Year – Shields Awarded for selfless contribution to the team for male and female
XC – Clarkson Cup The Clarkson Cup is the original trophy for the Senior Men's XC Champion. In the mid '60s club championships were being held in conjunction with regional championships, the West Lancashire in either 1967 or 1968 and by 1969 the National, hence the "first home in the National" tag
XC – National Award For the first placed senior lady in the National XC.
XC – Garden Wizard Trophy One of two trophies given by chairman Pete Benson in 2004, to recognise younger cross country competitors, and named after one of his companies.
XC – JIT Water Filters Trophy One of two trophies given by chairman Pete Benson in 2004, to recognise younger cross country competitors, and named after one of his companies.
XC - Chester Trophy This was originally presented as a sort of "players' player" award for the men's XC section. The original stipulation was that the committee shouldn't decide the winner and for the first few years it was decided by a vote at the end -of-season get together/meal.
XC – Shield Vet 40 For the Mens Vet 40 champion, based on Mid-Lancs XC race tables
XC Ladies Shield For the Ladies Vet 40 champion, based on Mid-Lancs XC race tables
Road – Senior Mens & Senior Ladies Trophies Awards based on who tops the road championship tables run from Dec to September.
Chairmans Cup Male Now used as Vet 40 in the road championships
Road – Male Vet 50 & Vet 60; Ladies Vet 40, Vet 50, & Vet 60 Age Group champions in the road race championships
1st Finishers in the Preston 10 – Male & Female Awarded to the first Preston Harrier in both the mens and ladies categories
Fell - Mount Trophy Vet 40 fell champion based on the fell running championships Jan to Oct
Fell – Annie McKay Shield Vet 50 fell champion based on the fell running championships Jan to Oct
Fell – 2x2 (performance in a pairs) Best performance in a pairs event
Fell – Ladies Trophy Ladies champion based on the fell running championships Jan to Oct
Fell – Slate Slab (Champion) A huge trophy! Mens champion based on the fell running championships Jan to Oct
Fell – Bob Alexander Wayfarer A broken compass, possibly mounted on a hand. Awarded for the biggest navigational error in a fell race
Fell - Male & Female Junior Champions Donated by the fell runners from 2004 for the juniors and based on the Fell Runners Association Junior Championship races, of which there are six each year from April to September.
Vernon Vets Trophy Terry Gale, who used to be in the Harriers, won the big one on Vernons football pools and as a result, bought & donated a trophy known as the Vernon Vets. Trophy
